例如一个加利福利亚的波段交易者（了解您最关注的货币对在每天最为波动的时段，保证在正确的时间进行交易）在亚市时段建立了一个头寸，考虑到欧洲和美国时段市场波动性的上升，该头寸也将会受到影响。这位交易员希望给自己的头寸留下足够的操作空间，而不是在汇价朝向相反方向运行时立即平仓，因此对自己的仓位设置了50个点的静态止损，目标价位同样也是50个点。如果该交易员希望以1:2的风险回报比入场，那么静态止损点应设置为50个点，目标价位则应该是入场价位的+/-100个点。
2.基於静态止损的指标
部分交易员会用ATR来设置静态止损距离，通过ATR（Average True Range平均真实波幅）来设置静态止损的好处是，交易员是以实际的市场信息的来帮助设定止损，具有一定的灵活性。那么在上面的50个止损点和50个目标点的例子中，50个止损点在一个波动性的市场中意味著什么呢？在一个清淡的市场中又意味著什么呢？

希望对仓位有最高控制权的交易员，在市场朝著其仓位方向移动时，则可以选择手动移动止损点。

移动止损又叫跟踪止损，需要重点提醒的是，部分司法管辖区允许经纪商执行跟踪止损功能。
对於新手交易员来说，静态止损能够在很大程度上提高交易员的交易技能。熟练的交易员则会采用更为复杂的移动止损来进行风险管理，移动止损就是其中之一。移动止损踪止损是当交易向交易者有利的方向移动时进行调整的止损，以进一步降低交易中出现和自己的交易方向相反的风险。
例如，一个交易员在1.1720建立欧元/美元多头头寸，止损在1.1553（167个点），若汇价上行，交易员可能会考虑将止损位从1.1553上调至1.1720。将此前的止损位上调至入场价位，达到了盈亏平衡点，即便欧元/美元後来转为下行，其所遭受的损失将比上调止损前小得多。

5.固定跟踪止损
交易员也可以通过递增地方式来跟踪止损，比如根据仓位的方向每次调整10个点的止损。
以交易员在1.3100入场做多为例，初始止损价为1.3050，在汇价升至1.3110後，止损价也相应地上升10点至1.3060，汇价再次上升10个点至1.3130後，止损价位将递增至1.3070，以此类推，直到汇价触及止损价位或者交易员手动平仓。需要指出的是固定跟踪止损的参数由交易员自己设定。如果欧元/美元反转下行，该仓位在1.3070被触发止损价平仓，相较於初始是的1.3050止损位，交易员挽回了20个点的损失。（Warren Venketas撰，Cindy译）
